Appointment Of Special Constables

• Appointment of volunteer/special constables shall be permitted under this Act.
• Special constables shall receive a daily supplement commensurate with State Service Commission guidelines in addition to receiving uniform and travel allowances.
• Special constables shall meet the same character requirements of regular officers.
• Special constables may be appointed if they do not meet the fitness/health requirements of regular officers.
• Special constables will not have the power to detain individuals unless they do so as a citizen arrest.
• Special constables will be used to supplement existing staffing levels, not as a replacement for sworn officers.
• Special constables shall not use a uniform that can be confused with 'regular' constables.
