InterpretationIn this Act, unless the context requires otherwise,- Commissioner means the Commissioner of Police appointed under section 5 Crown means the monarch of the realm of New Zealand, through the Governor-General of New Zealand Dependencies means the dependencies of the realm of New Zealand, which are Niue, Cook Islands, Ross Dependency and Tokelau Deputy Commissioner means a Deputy Commissioner of Police appointed under section 7 Employee means a Police employee appointed under this Act Minister means the Minister of Police, or the cabinet Minister in charge of policing New Zealand means the current realm of New Zealand (also known as Aotearoa) which this act covers; consisting of North Island, South Island, Stewart Island, and the Chatham Islands. This Act doesn't cover any dependencies that covers the realm, such as Niue, Cook Islands, Ross Dependency and Tokelau, unless they wish to covered by this Act, of which a clause will be inserted Police means the instrument of the Crown known as New Zealand Police (also known as Ngā Pirihimana o Aotearoa); and includes all Police employees appointed under this Act Police Ombudsman or Ombudsman means the position of the post of police ombudsman; who is responsible in investigating and acting on official complaints of the Police Reasonable Suspicion of Criminal Wrongdoing means unprejudiced suspicion, based on observations of an individual's behaviour or demeanour, that would lead a reasonable person to believe the individual under observation may have committed a crime or is obviously preparing to commit a crime |
